The Kwara State government has successfully screened 102,452 residents for hypertension and blood sugar levels. This achievement was announced by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, during a media briefing held in Ilorin, the state capital.
Dr. El-Imam praised the community for their participation in this important health initiative. The screening was part of Project 10 Million, a nationwide effort initiated by health commissioners from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to test 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and blood sugar levels.
In a statement released by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Gbenga Falade, Dr. El-Imam explained that the screening took place from October 28 to November 10, 2024. She highlighted the project’s success, attributing it to the collaboration among various stakeholders, including state executive council members, traditional leaders led by the Emir of Ilorin, local government chairpersons, health workers, religious organizations, and development partners such as the World Health Organization.
Dr. El-Imam noted that Kwara emerged as one of the top states in implementing this project. She expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support and emphasized that this initiative represents one of the largest health interventions aimed at adults in the state.
The Commissioner urged residents to continue monitoring their blood pressure and sugar levels to manage their health effectively and reduce mortality rates associated with these conditions.
