Wake Forest Launches New Heart Health Program for Employees

Wake Forest University’s Healthy Exercise and Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS) is now accepting applications for its new “Heart Health Program” (HHP), set to begin in the spring of 2025. The 12-week program is available free of charge to full-time, permanent Wake Forest employees.

The HHP aims to help individuals make heart-healthy lifestyle changes, providing support for those unsure of where to start. It is a medically supervised program designed to promote cardiovascular health through exercise and education.

Program Details:

Start Date: The program begins on Wednesday, January 29, with weekly in-person sessions every Wednesday from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Comprehensive Health Assessments: Participants will receive baseline and follow-up evaluations of their cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure, lipid profiles, and body composition analysis.

Physical Activity and Diet: The program will assess each participant’s physical activity levels and dietary intake. These assessments will help define personalized goals for a healthier lifestyle, including specific calorie and nutrient adjustments.

Body Composition Analysis: Participants will undergo a DXA scan to assess body composition, including bone density.

Exercise Opportunities: Participants can also access optional supervised exercise sessions at the Health & Exercise Science Clinical Research Center.

Weekly Behavioral Sessions: Small group sessions will focus on teaching effective strategies for managing heart health through sustainable lifestyle changes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full-time, permanent Wake Forest University employees
  • Commitment to attending all 12 weekly sessions

Applications for the program are currently being accepted. The program offers a comprehensive approach to heart health, combining medical assessments, exercise, and behavioral strategies to help participants make lasting changes for better cardiovascular health.
